EPS (polystyrene) ETICS is the most economical and common facade insulation system. Typical thickness is 100–150 mm with about 6 dowels/m². It is light and easy to cut, but combustible — fire barriers around openings are required.

For a single-storey 10 × 8 m house with 3 m walls, the gross facade area is (10+8)×2×3 = 108 m². Subtracting ~12 m² of windows and doors leaves 96 m² to insulate. With an EPS 100 system that means roughly: 96 m² of boards (with a 5% reserve ~101 m²), ~530 kg of adhesive (5.5 kg/m²), ~580 dowels (6 pcs/m²), ~106 m² of glass-fibre mesh (10 cm overlaps), ~430 kg of base coat and ~290 kg of decorative render at 1.5 mm grain.
In Latvia a full ETICS material kit costs around €25–35/m² (EPS) or €35–50/m² (mineral wool), with labour adding €25–40/m². Base rails, corner beads with mesh and window reveals are counted separately in linear metres — the calculator includes them once you enter the openings.
Roughly €50–75/m² with EPS and €60–90/m² with mineral wool (materials + labour, excluding scaffolding). The exact price depends on facade complexity, the number of openings and the render type.
In the Latvian climate renovations typically use 100–150 mm; new builds aiming for modern energy standards use 150–200 mm. Below 100 mm the investment rarely pays off.
EPS is cheaper and easier to install but combustible. Mineral wool is non-combustible (A1), vapour-open and mandatory for fire barriers and timber buildings. Public and multi-storey buildings normally use wool.
For a private house a simplified notification to the local building authority (facade certification card) is usually enough when the exterior changes. Apartment buildings need a full design. Check with your municipality.
