HPL panels (FunderMax, Trespa etc.) are usually 6–8 mm thick and are fixed on facades with painted rivets or hidden bonded/anchor fixings. Rivets need a spacer sleeve, and each panel has one fixed point while the rest are sliding, allowing thermal movement. Joints between panels are about 8 mm.
The calculator counts panels with a format-based reserve, aluminium profiles and brackets, rivets or anchors, wool, membrane and ventilation profiles. For large formats it pays to optimise the cutting layout — less waste and a cheaper facade.
Facade HPL panels (FunderMax, Trespa, 6–8 mm) are fitted on aluminium or impregnated timber subframes with facade rivets or colour-matched screws — fixing spacing ≤ 600 mm and ~20 mm from the panel edge. As with large-format fibre cement: one fixed point per panel, all other holes oversized by 2–3 mm — HPL moves more thermally than cement boards (~2.5 mm/m at ΔT 50 °C), so free movement is critical.
Concealed fixing uses bonded rear-face anchors and hanging rails — this needs ≥ 8 mm panels and adds ~20–30% to the system cost. Joints 8–10 mm, open; behind the panels a UV-stable membrane and 30 mm cavity. The HPL core is black — cut edges need no sealing, they are waterproof; just chamfer sharp arrises.
Panels €40–80/m² depending on brand and decor; with subframe and wool, materials total €90–140/m²; installation €40–60/m².
HPL is resin-pressed paper — the most impact-resistant of the three, with the widest decor range (wood, concrete, solids). Fibre cement is mineral and matte; composite is the lightest and flattest. Prices are similar.
Quality panels carry a UV protection layer and a 10-year fade warranty. On south facades the tone shifts slightly and evenly after 10–15 years — invisible unless you place a new panel beside it.
On aluminium profiles — facade rivets with painted heads; on timber battens — stainless screws with painted heads and sealing washers. Either way, the fixed-point principle and oversized holes are mandatory.
