Concrete volume is length × width × thickness, plus ~2% for pumping losses and formwork tolerances. For foundations and slabs in Latvia class C20/25 or C25/30 is typical; ready-mix delivered by truck is almost always cheaper than self-mixing once the volume exceeds ~1.5–2 m³.
If you mix yourself, the calculator converts the volume into cement, sand and gravel — a typical proportion is about 1:2:4 by volume with ~300–350 kg of cement per cubic metre. Don’t forget formwork and PE film under a slab — the calculator counts those too.
An 8 × 6 m slab at 120 mm thickness has a net volume of 5.76 m³. When ordering ready-mix, allow a small reserve for dimensional variation, pumping losses and an uneven base; the calculator lets you change this allowance.
For strip foundations enter the total length of every section, actual width and concrete depth. Concrete class, reinforcement, cover and movement joints cannot be determined by a volume calculator alone.
