How a Cedral facade is calculated

Cedral Lap boards are installed with a 30 mm overlap, so of the 190 mm width the working height is 160 mm — this determines boards per square metre. Cedral Click joins in a groove without overlap. Batten spacing is 600 mm (closer at windows and corners), and a ventilation gap of at least 20 mm behind the boards is mandatory, with a perforated pest closure at the bottom.

The calculator counts boards with a cutting reserve, battens or metal profiles, wind membrane, wool, screws and all trims — starter, corner and window profiles. You can choose Lap or Click and a timber or aluminium frame.

Cedral installation norms and example

A Cedral Lap board is 3600 × 190 mm; with a 30 mm overlap the exposure is 160 mm, so 1 m² takes ~1.74 boards. The Click type (3600 × 186 mm) has a 168 mm exposure. Batten spacing is 600 mm maximum (400 mm in wind zones and at corners), with a ventilation cavity of at least 20 mm behind the boards, a perforated pest-closure profile at the base and an outlet at the top.

Example: a 6 × 3 m wall (18 m², no openings) needs ~32 Lap boards (~35 with a 10% cutting reserve), ~30 m of vertical battens at 600 mm centres, 100 mm mineral wool with a windproof membrane and about 140 screws. Cut boards with a fine-tooth blade and seal cut edges with Cedral touch-up paint — otherwise the fibre cement wicks moisture at the edges.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Cedral facade cost per m²?

Materials (boards, battens, wool, membrane, trims) run about €45–65/m² depending on the collection; installation adds €30–45/m². Click is slightly more expensive than Lap.

Lap or Click — what is the difference?

Lap is installed with an overlap and visible screws — faster and cheaper. Click interlocks with hidden fixings — a flatter, more modern facade, but installation is more demanding and needs a more accurate batten grid.

Is Cedral suitable for the Latvian climate?

Yes — fibre cement is unaffected by freeze-thaw cycles, does not rot and does not burn (A2-s1,d0). The manufacturer gives a 10-year warranty; realistic service life is 50 years with minimal maintenance.

What battens should be used?

Impregnated timber battens of at least 28 × 70 mm (45 × 70 mm at corners and joints) or aluminium profiles. Spacing 600 mm, reduced to 400 mm at openings and corners.
