Calculating a composite cassette facade

ACP composite and metal cassettes are made to order with folded edges, so what matters here is not so much waste as the exact cassette module — it defines the spacing of vertical profiles. Cassettes are fixed with clips or screws through the folds, leaving a ~10–15 mm rustication joint between them.

The calculator works out cassette area, the aluminium subframe (brackets + profiles), clips or screws, mineral wool, wind membrane and perforated ventilation profiles. If the cassette size is not yet known, start with a typical 600×1200 mm module and refine it from the manufacturer’s drawings.

Composite cassette specifics

Aluminium composite panels (ACP — Alucobond, Aludecor etc.) are not cut like flat sheets: they are routed and folded into cassettes with 25–40 mm returns. Material consumption therefore always exceeds the facade area — with typical cassette sizes 12–18% of the sheet goes into returns and routing. Cassettes hang on hook clips ("ikli") or are screwed to horizontal rails through the returns.

The subframe matches other rainscreens: brackets ~2 pcs/m², vertical profiles at 600 mm centres, plus horizontal cassette rails. Metal cassettes (0.7–1.2 mm steel with polyester or PVDF coating) follow the same logic, just heavier. Joints between cassettes are 10–15 mm and define the facade pattern, so the cassette layout is always drawn before ordering — the calculator gives areas and fixings, while the cutting map comes from the fabricator.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a composite facade cost per m²?

ACP cassettes with subframe — about €90–140/m² in materials (depending on sheet grade and coating); installation €45–70/m². Metal cassettes come out slightly cheaper than ACP.

Is composite fire-safe?

Facades may only use FR (fire-retardant core, B-s1,d0) or A2-class sheets. Cheap PE-core sheets ignite easily and are banned on public and multi-storey buildings — always check the sheet class on the certificate.

Why can cassettes not be cut on site?

Routing needs CNC precision — fold straightness and corner quality depend on it. On site you only trim within tolerances; cassettes are fabricated in the shop from an approved layout map.

ACP or metal cassettes — which to choose?

ACP is lighter, flatter and holds plane better over large areas; metal resists impact better and costs less. Plinths and ground floors often get metal, with ACP above.
