One coat of interior paint typically covers 8–10 m² per litre on a smooth, primed surface. Two coats are standard; a bold colour change or unprepared surface may need a third. Primer evens out absorption and reduces paint consumption — especially over fresh filler.
The calculator works out walls from perimeter and height, subtracts windows and doors, and adds the ceiling if needed. The result is litres of primer and paint with can sizes. Actual coverage is stated on the can — enter the manufacturer’s figure in expert mode for precision.
With 80 m² of net wall area, coverage of 8 m²/l and two coats, the theoretical quantity is 20 l. Porous or uneven substrates, a strong colour change and roller losses increase consumption, so the calculator lets you adjust coverage and reserve.
Primer does not replace paint: it evens out absorption and improves adhesion. Calculate walls, ceilings and other surfaces separately when they use different products.
Add the wall lengths, multiply by height and subtract large windows and doors. Calculate the ceiling separately as length × width.
Substrate absorption and texture, the tool, colour and film thickness all matter. Stated coverage normally assumes a prepared, smooth surface.
It is normally needed on new, dusty, filled or unevenly absorbent surfaces. When repainting a sound compatible coating, follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions.
